Your brand content

As a small business, there are many things to keep track of, and a social media content calendar is one of them. To-do lists do not get any shorter, which is a good sign! It means your business is growing! That also means you are prioritizing your clients’ needs over yours – which is important. But it is always at the back of your mind – “What about my content? My social media? My blog?” Here are some simple tips on how to keep your content up to date on your social media and blogs:

Set aside a few hours every month to focus on your brand

To build your own small business means to stay organized. Set aside a few hours per month to focus on your brand and your business. The beginning of the month can focus on ideation, the middle on creation, and the end on scheduling. Use this time to figure out how many posts you want to do per month, which days you would like to post, find images/artwork, and create a generic framework.

Have a framework for your content

Keep a calendar besides you and create a framework. How often do you want to post on social media? Do you want the content to be the same on all platforms? What kind of content are you looking to post? If you are doing blogs, create an editorial calendar that can sync up with your social media posts. For example, posting a blog per month means you can curate content from that blog for at least 3 social media posts. Some great tools to use in order to keep your calendar organized are Microsoft Excel (back to the basics!) and Airtable.

Have a collection of generic posts

Now, we do not know if this is the norm, but we find it easy this way. We have a list of quotes, captions, questions, on an ongoing document that we update as and when the inspiration hits us. We use these to design our generic quotes focusing on motivation, self-love, or content marketing. The design is done whenever we have downtime using apps like Canva or on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Having this pool of ready designs makes it easy to pick and drop every month without having to research every month for new quotes.

Have a calendar to keep track of occasions

We feel like we are stating the obvious, but it is important to keep track of dates and occasions that matter to your brand. For example, your key milestones, world social media day, cybersecurity day, etc. There are many sources out there that have this ready for you such as Hootsuite, Hubspot, and The Blueprint.

Use a scheduling tool

Using a scheduling tool helps you stay organized. Once all your content is ready, you can upload and schedule them monthly. This way, you do not have to worry about remembering to post regularly. Some great scheduling tools are Hootsuite and Later.
